From Old China to Betty Blue

Well, I've given the Old China a spoodle and a new set of strings and verily nice it is too.

I am quite impressed by the way the finish has been de-glossed, it looks a lot more expensivo. And the metal nut is good, I like them (Trying not to think about the Old Gordo) and it makes the tone a little zingier, I think..

Soundwise it is pretty PAF-like though a tad cotton woolly, and looking at the pots and wiring didn't exactly inspire me, but I'm going to leave it a little while before I do anything drastic.

I've got a Fake58 Les Paul loom somewhere, and daft as it sounds, decent pots and wire and all that might just be enough. I might not even need to change the pickups.

Really.

It could happen.

I could put the loom in and see, it can't hurt.

And then maybe next week I'll think about new pups...

I miss that out-of-phase bit in the middle the old Vintage Lemon Drop had, I have to admit.

And, well, what can I say?

I'm a guitar fiddler.

It isn't something I'm proud of.

As for other things, well The Betty Blue One is well and on it's way as the foto hopefully shows - I put the neck and tuners on and all that is left is the need for a bit of soldering to do and we're in business. Probably one for Monday, but there we go. Oh, and strap pins, I always forget the strap pins.

The neck for The Resurrected One hasn't arrived yet, but that too could be together next week also similarly like.

All of which sounds quite productive, doesn't it?

I wonder what will really happen?

Chin Up Me Old Chine

Well, the couriers were swarming today..

My Old China Tokai Les Paul arrived and feels verily Les Paul-like and nice.

Obviously I took the 'plate off and swapped the knobs so it would feel comfy-like.

I know most people would have changed the rusty strings first, but I'm shallow, I don't mind admitting.

The not so good news was that I also got the battered and torn The B Movie One back.

I knew it was busted, but seeing it proper, brought a little tear to me eye, must admit.

On a better note, I also got the wiring loom and pups direct from Mojoland UK.

Can't wait to get them in and working on The Fallen One, assuming I ever get the neck sorted out.

What else?


Well, the Lightning Dragon is due to be unveiled later, so no doubt more once school is out.

Three screws to tighten and another attempt to string it and we'll be there. Lovely.

Me Old China

Super Shiny Old China

Well, I've been sat back and ponderously pondering what to do this Autumn, and generally it seems it is going to be about chopping things out of wood, and making strange shapes in a Semi-Acoustically-Danelectro-esque kinda way.

Which is cool, I like that.

So some of those things that have been hanging around on the Coming Onedayish list will finally move forward and life will be simpler, I'll pay my bills on time, plan meaningful activities for the Bratskis and generally become a good an proper citizen.

However, as far as my own little guitars go, I'm going to try and keep what I have for a while, and limit my meandering to pimping the Tokai Les Paul I should get next week sometime.My Old China, as it seems to be known locally. To me anyway.

I think I said before that it has already been pimped to some extent - new CTS pots and wiring, Tokai Mk4 pickups and removing the glossiness of the finish, but I think I'm going to swap the pickups for a Peter Green type of set (I've been looking for a chance to try Mr Mojo's PAFs for a while, and this seems perfect) and I've had a Fake58 Ye Olde wiring loom hanging around for ages, so I might pop that in for the 50s look and feeling. After that, well, we'll see how we go, but I love the way JXG did Old Honey and there are plenty of tips there to try, methinks.
