King Slippy

Well, I think I said the other day that I'd got a Chap-from-the-Allman Bros Slide for Dimwits DVD and one of those funny medicine bottle slides to see if I can improve at it a wee bit, and whilst watching the DVD has been a no hoper until schools in again, I have been having a bit of a dabble.

And mucho fun it be too, though I'm thinking I might need a dedicated slide guitar with a really high action. Something trashy and old would be perfect. I may be the man for the job as I qualify on both counts.

But playing and it might sounds daft, but in the past I've basically just played along with old blues stuff in a hit and mainly cat-strangling-miss kinda way, but this time for no apparent reason, I thought I'd have a go at playing some scales, and amazingly it is really quite easy. I've discovered - and you may want to write this down with a big block-lettered heading of 'Genuine Insight', that if I use this newfoundland, you can actually play tunes too.

Bloody amazing it is. I wish I hadn't bought the DVD now, but I might as well give it a go sometime. I can't imagine that it will be able to teach me anything, but you never know.

Next year I am thinking that I might find a use for those twiddly bits at the top end of the guitar that hold the strings in place.

Sliding Away...

Well, I have to say I'm all flattened deflated at the moment after the hole-cut-backwards-ness of the bridge plate for The Betty Blue One. Whether they send a replacement or not, it is just so annoyingly boring and take-long-time-ish.

I could just use a different bridge I guess, but it isn't as it was meant to be, and that be that.

So basically, Betty is back in the corner again for a while, until my brain recovers.

In other news, despite expectations I have spent some time recording The Fabulous One, but that too has ended in a frustratingly aching heart as the $%^&*& PC crashes every time I press the STOP button on Audacity.

I mean, you can't imagine the great art that has already been lost to the world.

As for other stuff, to cheer meself up I've bought a How To Play Slide For Numpties DVD and one of those funny little bottles as a slide (Coricidin Coricidin - bless you etc.)

Now, I can actually play a bit of slide - I used to play along to lots of old Blues records at one time, but I think this autumn I need to stretch my brain a bit, so this can go on top of the pile of other books and DVDs I've accumulated and never used.

But this time will be different.

Really it will.

Honest.

Either that or you'll see them on Ebay next week.

I'm trying to teach myself a little patience at the moment, that's all.

Plus I'd need a new guitar to setup as a slide-box, of course, and those shiny metal resonator would match the glazing of my eyes.

Fed-up Being Boring

OK, the weekend is upon us, so rather than plan to watch some football or tidy the garden, or maybe even just sleep it away - never really an option around here - I thought I'd try and get a bit of Jooky stuff done.

Firstly, the Glistery One needs finishing - Check.

Secondly, The Beano One needs a tweak or three. Check.

Thirdly, a rather nice Strat has come into my possesion, despite it meant to be somebody else's - and that has possibilities. Check.

That should  be enough to keep me busy.

Next week though, I'm changing tack a wee bit as I've got a couple of Cigar Boxes I've been meaning to turn into three string sliders, and it is probably time to add them to the Jooky roll-call.

Have a good 'un yourself..
