Sold: The Boogaloo One

The Boogaloo One is a complete one off, with the body shape being homage to a Ricky 600 series, although it is semi-acoustic and steals a slash of a cat’s eye soundhole from elsewhere. The finish is pure Jooky with a time-stained white reminding us of an old picket fence.

The neck on this baby is a total joy. One of Warmoth’s posher offerings, it is made from a gorgeous piece of Anigre with a slab Kingswood 'board. The figuring on both of these has to be seen, pondered and heads a little shaken, to be believed. Medium jumbo frets with a 9” radius make this modern and very playable.

The crowning glory of this guitar are of course the matched pair of Gold Foil Pickups made especially for this guitar by Marc Ransley, uber pickup maker at Mojo Pickups. These have a sound of their own which gives bags of jangle, given their toaster-sized shape you’d hope for that, but equally have enough grunt for some serious rock and blues. Marc also made us a complementary wiring loom, all CTS pots, PIO caps and Switchcraft switches and Jacks..as you’d expect – top quality end-to-end.

The Made in the U.S of A Bigsby B5 completes the tale along with a Ricky-esque bridge as a final flourish.

All in all, this is a stunning looking guitar that plays beautifully and nails all of the classic tones.

To be clear, The Boogaloo One is an utterly unique guitar, and there will never, ever, be another made. It is signed and numbered, entirely hand built and finished cooler than a slo-mo run across the pebbled beach at Portishead. There will genuinely never be another guitar like this and past experience suggests that it won’t be around for long.
