The Bergasol One is a stunning looking and sounding Jookified Esquire that is truly cool in every way.
Based on Fender’s earliest, a swamp ash body has been stained and waxed, back and sides, with the top getting one of our acid fried corroded bronze finishes to amazing effect, dripping down the sides and set-off beautifully with a Bakelite pickguard.
The neck is a good old school handful with a low buzz-free action and a beautiful smooth ride – the headstock corroded to match the top of the body.
A Fender bridge gives the traditional twang with an ashtray cover adding a bit of class.
Sounds come via a specially wound by Marc Ransley at Mojo Pickups Hot Broadcaster pickup, that along with the top notch Mojo Esquire loom drags every possible tone out of the guitar with ease.
Control plate, bridge and tuners have been aged, with Wilkinson Klusons giving a solid feeling tuning.
All in all, this is a stunning looking guitar, with bags of tone and a beautiful feel. What else could you possibly want?
*
To be clear, The Bergasol One is an utterly unique guitar, and there will never, ever, be another made. It is signed and numbered, entirely hand built and finished cooler than a slo-mo run across the pebbled beach at Portishead. There will genuinely never be another guitar like this and past experience suggests that it won’t be around for long.

Introducing: The Bergasol One
Well, I am pleased to introduce to you, a rather stunningly groovy yet cool addition to the Jooky retinue, the rather green around the gills, The Bergasol One.
I managed to finish it first thing this morning and then played it into shape for a few hours, and call me fickle and a guitar tart, but I think I'm in love again.
The neck is a proper old style handful and feels beautiful to play - you proper glide around the place.
And the pickup - Marc at Mojo Pickups wound me a hotter version of his beatified Broadcaster - 13K if such things mean much to you - and it sustains like a Viagra monching octogenarian. The tone is gorgeous too, that real on-the-edge feeling to it.
As for the wiring, Marc has also done me one of his classy Esquire looms for three tones from one pickup, and I am so in love with the cocked-wah front position, well, I may just gush.
(I can gush, more than this, believe me. I'm a gushing geyser of a geezer, and no mistake.)
As for the finish - well, the body is a lovely lump of swamp ash, and back and sides have got a blue stain/hard wax oil finish, while the top was treated to a bronze bath (the drips run over the side - I love that) before being attacked maliciously with some home brew acid, so that is has corroded in a vaguely burst effect quite lushly.
Lush, is indeed what I am thinking. Proper lush.
And so there we are, a lovely old school Esquire - and I didn't even mention the Bakelite pickguard - with a proper old school neck and tone by the bucket.
Lush in excelsis

WIP: The Bergasol One
So, naturally the lovely Broadcaster pickup and wiring bobbins arrived from Mojo Pickups, with fifteen minutes to go before I regain my bratskis.
So no chance of soldering it in today...
I did however manage to screw things together, and I have to say I am loving The Bergasol One already. I don't think I've had a proper Bakelite 'plate before on one of my guitars, but it looks cool against the corroded bronze and there we are.
So tomorrow anyway, I will hopefully be playing this baby (glossing over the slight issue of the forgotten Electro socket jack cup thingy which I really must sort out, ahem).
So WIP is all I can claim for this, but I am secretly rather chuffed indeed.

And So...
And Next Is Likely To Be - Rotting Bronze The Bergasol One
The house seemed so empty.
So quiet. Comparatively.
The noise and clutter and violence and screams, always the screams...should have given me a clue they hadn't though.
But gone it is, and I'm lamely not quite sure what to do with meself.
Well, thinking positively, Marc at Mojo Pickups has done me a super hot Tele pickup for the Esquireified The Bergasol One, which should be pretty hot, hot, hot and hot to trot next week sometimes.
I've finally got to the bottom of my issues with The Chi Chi One, which were basically that I'd - err - put the wrong knobs on the pots and was getting my volume and tones confused. I knew there was something, and well, it was as simple as that.
I was thinking that I'm surprised not to have had the usual offers for my Chi Chi baby, and then remembered that it might have something to do with my not putting it up for sale. So if you are the chap who normally offers me your Park praccy amp and twenty quid, sorry about keeping you dangling and I'm very touched but I'm afraid it is no again.
I'll put it up for sale next week when I've polished it or something.
I am genuinely loving it, has to be said. The P90 is glorious and the PAF sings and between the two I make an unlikely racket alternating between Tony Iommi and Paul Kossoff.
I'd record it so that you can see what I mean, but unfortunately I am hoping for some self-esteem for Xmas and wouldn't want to upset my chances.
My neighbour asked me if I can turn the distortion up as it covers the awful playing better that way. Which was a bit rude, but honest. And only encourages my need.
But anyway...

WIP: The Bergasol One (Slight Return)
In between though, I did somehow get The Bergasol One as far as I can, and jolly nice it looks too.
I'm really sadly proud of the way the corroded bronze has turned out, and the Fender bridge and cover set it off to a tee.
Lovely.
Obviously, that goes on the list of waiting-for-parts, but if I've done what I can, there is no point in worrying.
My therapist told me that.
or maybe my Nan, bless her.

WIP: The Bergasol One
1. Sanded Ash - Nice Grain
As you can hopefully see, I started by staining the swamp ash body a lovely shade of bleu, which looks pretty and fine to me.
From there, the top was given lashings of bronze
I wanted this to be quite thin so that we'll still get to see a hint of grain through it here and somewhere over there, somewhere nice and yet it be too soon to find out whether I pulled that off or not.
Next step along this little journey, was to corrode a good portion of the bronze. I dripped it so that it runs over the edges, but that can retain the bronziness, it is the top I wanted to get a nice blue dilapidated hue.
2. Bluely Stained Back
I did the headstock to match which worked nicely.
I don't know, it happens, just sometimes, rare, but occasional like a table - things just go right.
Nowt to do with me, just a wrinkle in the cosmos.
As for what is next, well I'm going to hard wax it all over which will account for a few days I expect.
After that I have a Bakelite esquire 'plate, a proper Fender bridge and a list of parts on their way.
3. Bluely Stained Front
He's already done the loom, so we'll have to wait and see what the chap comes up with pickup-wise.
This is going to be pretty and groovy all at the same time. I just know it.
Other than that, The Confused One is on it's way, so I'll give that a final twiddle and some chunky new strings before waiting for couriers once more.
The Chi Chi One is niggling me, so I think I need to do a bit of something there too.
Oh and the returning pickups, wirting and plate have just arrived from Mojoland for The Fallen One, so that will hopefully go back together again, too,
All fun, has to be said.
La la laaaa.
4. Bronze Smothered Front and Drippy Sides
5. Acid Sprayed Frontage
6. Acid Sprayed Headstock

The Only Way Is...
Well, another day another donut, as we say in the little kingdom of Jook, and today, whilst waiting for pickup rings a la Chi Chi, I am going to be turning the air blue.
For today I start the bodywork of The Bergasol One, and I am looking forward to it.
First up, will be a thorough sanding and smoothiness-inducing shake of the wire wool brush.
From there the back and sides will be stained a hue of blue.
A blue hue it will be if I do it wrong as well..
If that dries in time (so probably not) the top will get a good old fashioned bronzing with super fast tanning err, bronze paint. It is like Strictly around here most days, you couldn't and wouldn't imagine. Shouldn't, probably too.
And once that has had a couple of coats and is dry, I'm going for a subtle yet pretty much smothered coat of home brew acid to bring out the bluey green in it's eyes.
Once all that is done, it will be stabilised and generally coated with hot wax .
So maybe more of an Essex thing really. Perhaps it should have been Basildon not Bergasol, I never thought about it enough, clearly.
Of course detailed plans like this are important, yet may have no doppelganger in reality. May indeed contain nuts, or not, as tastes go or indeed may change over time.
Or the posty might turn up with my Boss GT8 which will mean days of fretting over parameters before the inevitable Ebay listing come Monday morn..

Coming Doon: The Bergasol One
Well, getting side-tracked despite the steady progress of The Chi Chi One and some mucho satisfying chopping of the wooden variety, I snapped up an intriguing Tele neck and Bakelite Esquire scratchplate, then went on a snaffling trip and found myself a nice Tele body, Fender Trad bridge and some other bits and pieces.
I have fancified doing a nice Esquire with a Bronze top for quite a while, so this is going to be it.
I know I'm doing lots of Teles at the moment, but there we are.
I like Teles, no harm in that.
They can't arrest you for it.
Not like wearing a shellsuit, after all.
I did fancy this to be a wee bit unusual though, so I've asked (challenged?) Marcy Mojo to come up with something 'different' and perhaps worryingly he is going to.
I like surprises though, so that is cool.
So that is going to be The Bergasol One, coming one day soonish.
Probably maybe.
